NIUMALU MARKET PLACE is located at Queen Ka’Ahumanu Hwy and Henry St. in Kona Hawaii. The shopping center complex was designed by AHL Architects of Honolulu, engineered by Mark A. Anderson SE of Beyler Consulting of Lakewood Wa. and constructed by Unlimited Construction Services of Lihue and Honolulu Hawaii. The METAL STUD CRETE [MSC] load bearing shear wall panel system was used as the exterior wall system and the panels were site cast on the job site using conventional TILT UP Construction Methods. This was a significant project for the MSC system in proving the cost saving features of the Composite Design, as the Seismic Design Category for this region of Kona is “E”. The Developers Sentinel and Blue Vista of Hawaii saved significantly on their wall panel construction cost, when the Unlimited Construction team compared the MSC design method and cost to conventional Block, Pre-Cast, and tilt Up designs. Niumalu Market Place currently has nine buildings completed to date. Anchor tenants are Safeway Market, and TJ Max a Clothing Retailer. Other tenants are currently leasing smaller spaces and will be moving into the shopping complex during 2021 and 2022, Other buildings will be constructed on existing sites within the complex for additional Tenants at a later date.
